As an Associate Scientist in Tobacco Control Research, Shanshan Wang, MPH, collaborates with Surveillance & Health Equity Science (SHES) researchers from the American Cancer Society (草莓影视) and 草莓影视 CAN to investigate the gap of tobacco control policies for different states and the health outcomes attributable to it. She also works with 草莓影视 CAN to promote new policies to cover that gap and reduce health risks related to tobacco.

Research focus and accomplishments

Wang’s research focuses on the states with smoking rates that are higher than the national average. Her study topics include tobacco taxes, tobacco control funding, smoke-free laws, and tobacco cessation coverage. She collaborates with her colleagues to collect data through:

  • Rapid response surveys
  • Literature reviews to discover the tobacco use and the burden of tobacco control in different states
  • Quantitative methods to analyze the effects of tobacco control policies on health outcomes
